Dark Angel

This design, created by Geeta Nadkarni, was commissioned based on the idea for forcing that dark angel inside of us all into the light and therefore taking away its power. We all have that demon in our heads waiting for us to mess up. Then, as soon as we do they jump in with recriminations and can create a cacophony of negativity in our head that seems impossible to silence. They can push our light and hope into a corner, scared to show itself. It is that dark angel that can cause us to give up instead of forging forward. Show your negative voice who's really in charge by displaying your dark side for all to see with this design.

This is one of my favorite pieces in the collection. The use of just a few colors really helps to bring out the message of everyone having a different side of their personality that they choose to “let out” when they want.

I think many creative people find that while our “dark side” can be detrimental by causing self-doubt, it can also contribute to our creativity if harnessed properly. There is beauty and depth in darkness. It’s no coincidence that many of our greatest writers and artists have battled demons like depression and addiction.

This piece drew me in with the art style, I just love it. It brings me back to a place in time.

The theme seems slightly juvenile, as does the technique. A demos, who seems quite pleased with herself is set opposite a downtrodden angel. The dichotomy is tired. The therapeutic value is elusive.

The contrast in this piece is brilliant. It truly makes you feel like the forces of light and dark are battling against each other. I could easily see this art on a t-shirt being quite popular.

The light angel looks so sad, and the dark angel looks devilish and happy. I’m not convinced the dark angel is always bad, though. If that side represents negativity, then maybe… but what if it represents the passions and ideas we kept hidden away? What if that dark angel should finally be free, and the light angel is the one who tells us to “fit in” with what the world expects of us?

I definitely see some Anime influence here. The design looks like it could be in a comic book featuring a fantasy story about the battles between good and evil.
