Just Breathe

Many people who deal with depression compare it to the feeling of drowning. You are stuck at the bottom and can't seem to get what you need to rise back up to the surface. Even getting the necessities of life can seem like a struggle some days while others have you simply looking for calm and serenity like that of still water. This design is meant to spread awareness about mental illness and as a reminder to those suffering that there is hope. One breath can start to restore your body when you're drowning, just as the right conversation, comfort, or treatment could help you deal with and thrive beyond your darkest days.

What do you think of this design?  What images and thoughts does it conjure up in you and how does it help show the world who you are?  Add to the conversation by commenting below.

The colors in this are rather lovely. This is another one which seems to admit light like a stained glass window. The artist’s technique leaves something to be desired, especially for the subject- which is quite morbid indeed. The subject is clearly drowning, has sustained some kind of abdominal injury and is dissolving hand-first? It might look nice on a t-shirt though.

The struggle with depression is real and it can feel like nothing in the world can save you from sinking deeper. This figure in this image looks trapped and uncomfortable, so it’s not exactly a pleasing image to look at, but nevertheless, it’s an artistic metaphor for the reality of mental illness.
