Don't Be Blinded By Love

The woman in this picture is clearly beautiful and stylish.  But, her beauty, personality and presence are all being overwhelmed by the make up covering her face.  It is only from stripping all of that away that we would be able to see her true self.  And, in turn, her coping mechanism no longer allows her to see the world clearly.

Make up is something that should be a fun experience and can be used as a positive expression of the person that you are and the person that you want the outside world to see.  But, if you're a victim of domestic violence, it can also be a way of hiding the pain that you deal with on a regular basis.

Domestic violence is something that affects 1 in 3 women in their lifetime.  Many stay in abusive and destructive relationships because while their partner is someone who hurts them, they are also someone that the woman loves and even trusts.  This design is to remind us all that the words "I love you" are not enough to build a strong relationship.  They need to be accompanied by a supportive heart and positive behavior.  This design is dedicated to all those that have been hurt by love and want to give their support to women who need to find their strength to discover something better for themselves.

What do you think of this design?  What images and thoughts does it conjure up in you and how does it help show the world who you are?  Add to the conversation by commenting below.

Eye catching use of photo collage and paint to create this striking image. The woman’s face central to the image is done in a overly 1980s teen aged girls poster type of style, but it still looks good. You almost feel like there’s a martini glass in there somewhere even though there isn’t.

Makeup is used to conceal flaws, and is often a metaphor for hiding something. In this case, the woman is hiding the signs of abuse. In effect, she’s covering for her abuser, which plays into the complex mental state of abuse victims. Blinded by love – the victims justify the abusers’ behavior because they think that’s what love is.
