Fire and Ice

How are you influencing others? Are you thoughtful with your words before you speak them?  This design, by talented artist Jill Henrichsen, at first glance, may seem to suggest passion and romance. But, as well as that, it dares to deliver a much deeper message. To some, behind the seemingly soft gestures and colors, they see hidden signs of emotional abuse. How one may be "melted into a hellish world by the manipulating or troubling tactics of another." Others may see a positive influence as one helps warm the other's icy exterior or cools their dangerously wild spirit.

Steve Maraboli said, “Sometimes the most painful lessons are delivered by someone masquerading as a soul mate….” But at the same time healthy relationships can actually build up each individual without destroying parts of the other. As Jill sees it, “Marriage isn’t about finding the right person, it’s being the right person.”  In other terms, it is when you can truly love yourself that you will truly find love with another.

What do you think of this design?  What images and thoughts does it conjure up in you and how does it help show the world who you are?  Add to the conversation by commenting below.

The picture reminds me of me when I met my husband of almost ten years and counting. As a survivor of child sexual abuse, sexual harassment, attempted rape and countless other travesties in my life, the picture resonates to me as a woman who turned to ice from all the hurt she has gone through. At the point of almost giving up on love, I met my husband by chance. Scorned and hurting himself, he managed to turn this icy bitch, into the most loving and passionate person. He is the warmth that melted the layers of frozen ice within my soul. Sappy as it may seem, but it is true.
